Movie Reaction: The Hunger Games04.02.12

To tell you honestly, I only watched the movie because I wanted to know what the fuss is all about. Everyone is talking about The Hunger Games and how much everyone is looking forward for the movie and how the movie is the next-in-line when it comes to hit movie franchise from Harry Potter to Twilight to The Hunger Games. And of course, how everyone loves the book and how good it is…so I really wont turn down a movie invitation from friends to watch this!

The movie adaption is almost 95% loyal to the book. I think one of the reason it was like that, because the screenplay is done none the less by the author. The only major difference is on how Katniss got the pin of Mockingjay from her friend,Madge, the daughter of the District 12 Mayor but in the movie, she bought it from Seam for Prim since it was reaping day.

At first I really thought the movie is so shaky as if I’m watching an indie movie. I think that they did it that way, to match the movie’s spirit. And they only did that while the scene is on District 12 where Katniss is in her natural habitat. The pacing of the movie is so natural, there’s no lagging and all important parts where highlighted. I just wished that there were more Katniss and Peeta moments. I know there’s a height difference when I saw the premiere pictures but if she’s not all glamored up, they would have been on the same height. :) Casting Peeta is a stand out because I think that Josh is the perfect Peeta, on how the author described him, medium height, stocky and with blond hair. The movie is packed up with action, suspense and a little bit of romance. It’s not a chick flick so if you are waiting to see something that will make you laugh or even smile, you should see Mirror, Mirror instead, which will be my next movie reaction.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

How can I, his girlfriend not know the exact date that he’ll be coming??!?!?!??!

Yup, I know that he’s coming here in Manila and will have his concert with B2ST and other Pinoy Pop groups. This concert is for the benefit of the Young Mothers. How noble! He’s a very good christian! Isn’t he? Oh my prince chariming!!! :) It’s so very nice of him and the rest of the group to do this benefit concert. I wish that next time it will be with SS501! So that I can meet my brothers-in-law. :P

Check out the poster for the concert:

He will also have a fan meet organized by Triple S Philippines. But this fan meet is exclusive for fans who will attend the concert and seated only in VIP, Patron and Upper. As usual, it’s limited slots only, meaning 60 people can only meet and greet him. You have to check out the forum for more details! Click HERE:

My side? I’ve been wanting to meet him at the airport with open arms and running as if we’re Sharon and Gaby but I can’t. He have 9 muscled bodyguards plus police escorts. Whew! What a tight security! But I don’t worry because he will come over later at my house to meet his future parents-in-law. HAHAHAHAHA! Here I am…getting delusional. :)  How I wish that my picture from here will come true!

SS501 CDs for Me12.15.09

Who is the best sister in the world? It’s not other than my sister, Ate Kayen. Yup! That’s true! Why? Because aside from being so understanding and uber nice, she will give me SS501 CDs with DVDs for me when she gets back home on the 25th! WoW! At long last I’ll have my very own original SS501 merchandise. And it’s not just one but three! Bwahahaha! I’m so happy! Really, really happy! Because it’s so hard to look for the boy’s CDs here in Manila. I’ve checked our (Triple S Philippines Forums) sites on how can I get hold of their CDs and you can read other fans’ account on how hard they have to go through and look for before they were able to get at least a copy one of the three of CDs that was released here in Manila. I dunno how long I will and if I can complete my SS501 collection but who knows, right?

Here are the CDs that Ate Kayen got for me! Love it! Love it! Unnie, kansamhanida! Saranghae!

Serve, serve well, serve others above yourself and be happy to serve.
–Efren Penaflorida, CNN Hero of the Year

Efren Peñaflorida, who started a “pushcart classroom” in the Philippines to bring education to poor children as an alternative to gang membership, has been named the 2009 CNN Hero of the Year.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper revealed Peñaflorida’s selection at the conclusion of the third-annual “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute” at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on Saturday night.

The gala event, taped before an audience of 3,000 at the Kodak Theatre, premieres on Thanksgiving, November 26, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the global networks of CNN.

The broadcast, which honors the top 10 CNN Heroes of 2009, features performances by Grammy Award-winning artist Carrie Underwood, R&B crooner Maxwell and British pop sensation Leona Lewis.

Peñaflorida, who will receive $100,000 to continue his work with the Dynamic Teen Company, was selected after seven weeks of online voting at More than 2.75 million votes were cast.

“Our planet is filled with heroes, young and old, rich and poor, man, woman of different colors, shapes and sizes. We are one great tapestry,” Peñaflorida said upon accepting the honor. “Each person has a hidden hero within, you just have to look inside you and search it in your heart, and be the hero to the next one in need.

“So to each and every person inside in this theater and for those who are watching at home, the hero in you is waiting to be unleashed. Serve, serve well, serve others above yourself and be happy to serve. As I always tell to my co-volunteers … you are the change that you dream as I am the change that I dream and collectively we are the change that this world needs to be.”

The top 10 CNN Heroes, chosen by a blue-ribbon panel from an initial pool of more than 9,000 viewer nominations, were each honored with a documentary tribute and introduced by a celebrity presenter. Each of the top 10 Heroes receives $25,000.

“With the recognition they receive on our stage,” said Cooper, who hosted the tribute, “they’ll be able to help thousands and thousands of people. Through their efforts, lives will be changed and lives will be saved.”

Maxwell sang “Help Somebody” from his first album in eight years, ‘BLACKsummers’night.’

Lewis, a three-time Grammy nominee, performed “Happy,” from her second album, “Echo.”

All three performances echoed the spirit of the CNN Heroes campaign, which salutes everyday people whose extraordinary accomplishments are making a difference in their communities and beyond.

Presenters included Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Neil Patrick Harris, Pierce Brosnan, Dwayne Johnson, Eva Mendes, Randy Jackson, Greg Kinnear, George Lopez and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

“This record number of nominations is further evidence of the momentum CNN Heroes has built in just a few short years,” said Jim Walton, president of CNN Worldwide.

“Viewers have been engaged by these stories of inspiration and accomplishment beyond our expectations. It is truly an honor to be able to introduce the CNN Heroes to our global audience every year.”

Again this year, producer/director Joel Gallen served as executive producer of “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute.” Among his credits, Gallen produced telethon events supporting victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina, winning an Emmy Award and a Peabody Award for “America: A Tribute to Heroes.”

The Kodak Theatre is best known as the first permanent home of the Academy Awards.

This is really inspiring. How awesome it is to be acknowledged and imagine, globally with what he is doing for his fellowmen is amazing. I’m speechless! Congratulations Efren!

Pacquiao beats Cotto by TKO11.15.09

Congratulations to Manny Pacquiao and to all the Filipinos!!!

Outsmarting a taller and heavier opponent, Manny Pacquiao needed 12 rounds to win by technical knockout (TKO) over a bloodied Miguel Cotto in their “Firepower” match Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Many Pacquiao whoops it up with assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez after hacking out a 12th round TKO win over Miguel Cotto Saturday in Las Vegas. AP

Earning his seventh weight division title and still peaking at age 30, the national icon cemented his status as one of the greatest boxers ever.

Referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight 55 seconds of the 12th round after seeing Cotto being pummeled by Pacquiao at the ropes.

“Miguel Cotto is one tough opponent. He took a lot of punches but still wouldn’t go down that easily,” said Pacquiao, who suffered a right swollen ear, after the fight.

Pacquiao collected his seventh world title with the win as he snatched Cotto’s World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight crown and the diamond-studded World Boxing Council (WBC) Diamond Belt, an honorary championship given for elite boxers.

The General Santos City native Pacquiao – who started fighting as a 106-lb in the strawweight division – also holds the International Boxing Organization (IBO) light welterweight crown. He previously ruled the WBC light weight, WBC super featherweight, International Boxing Federation (IBF) super bantamweight, WBC flyweight and RING Magazine’s featherweight divisions. divisions.

He, however, declined to give a glimpse of his future. “I’m not yet thinking of my next fight. I just want to enjoy this win first,” added Pacquiao, who now holds a record of 50 wins, three losses and two draws.

For Pacquiao’s long-time trainer and coach Freddie Roach, the only one left out there to challenge is Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Referee Kenny Bayless directs Manny Pacquiao to his corner after knocking down Miguel Cotto in the 4th round of their WBO welterweight title fight in Las Vegas.

Cotto, his face bloodied and swollen, dropped to 34-2 becoming Pacquiao’s 38th KO victim. “Manny is really one of the best,” he said.

It was also the first loss for the Puerto Rican since absorbing an 11th round TKO loss against Antonio Margarito last year.

Pacquiao’s recent triumph also extended his winning streak to 11 fights after suffering from a 12-round decision setback to Erik Morales on March 19, 2005.

Cotto was the aggressor in the match having a good first round by dictating the tempo of the match to somehow contain Pacquiao’s opening attacks.

But Pacquiao stuck with his game plan and seemed unfazed by Cotto’s power quickly adjusting in the second round that resulted in several fierce exchanges between the two fighters.

Cotto’s game plan seemed to work in the early rounds as he kept Pacquiao busy looking for better angles and openings.

Pacquiao, like a diesel engine that needs to warm up, went to work in the third with a left-right combination dropping Cotto on his knees and was later given a standing eight count by referee Bayless.

That did not rattle Cotto and the Puerto Rican retaliated with his own a 1-2-3 combo before the end of the third.

Pacquiao then pressed on with his attack in the fourth, targeting Cotto’s body and unleashing a several powerful combos that the deposed champion managed to endure.

Moments later, Cotto was once again down on his knees.

After the fourth, Cotto’s offense and game plan was no longer existent as Pacquiao continued with his relentless onslaught aiming for the deposed champion’s face that started to swell that opened up several cuts around his eyes.

Cotto trainer Joe Santiago seemed ready to throw in the towel at the end of the 11th but Bayless and ring side physician James Gane talked for a while and decided to let the deposed champion continue with the fight.

Pacquiao, sensing his imminent victory and the downfall of his opponent, poured it all in the 12th catching Cotto near the corner.

Seeing enough of the carnage, Bayless stepped in and signaled the stop of the fight as jubilation erupted in Pacquiao’s corner with assistant trainer and long-time buddy Buboy Fernandez giving the Filipino boxing icon a well-deserved victory ride. – GMANews.TV
